Dish TV gets relief from TDSAT

TDSAT has allowed direct to home service provider, Dish TV to move from a fixed fee agreement to reference interconnect offer-based agreement with sports broadcaster ESPN Star Sports.
Reference Interconnect Offer (RIO) sets the price at which a broadcaster offers its channels to cable and direct-to-home service provider and is governed by TRAI.

Fixed-fee agreement is an individual agreement stuck between two parties. The tribunal also allowed Dish TV to recover the excess payment of around Rs 25 crore made to ESS for the period starting September 2011.
R. C. Venkateish, CEO, Dish TV said, “This will bring order in the industry and will also enable the DTH operator to continue providing channels to subscribers at an affordable and competitive rate.”
