Delhi high court stops cable operators from unauthorised telecast of T20 World Cup

The Delhi High Court has barred the cable operators, hotels and websites against unauthorised broadcast of ICC World Twenty20 event. 27 matches of the event would be shown live by ESPN Star it will also simulcast of India matches, semi-finals and the final with Hindi commentary.
The television networks ESPN Star had said they anticipated the defendants, approximately 34 named cable operators, hotels and Internet websites may unauthorisedly telecast matches of the event on their networks.

Those who still telecast these matches would be facing contempt of court proceedings and would be prosecuted under it. The Delhi High Court also said the television network ESPN Star can take action against errant parties using the cricket feed of ESPN, Star Cricket HD and Star Cricket without licence.
TS Panesar, Vice-President – Affiliate Sales, ESPN Software India, said, “We welcome the order. It will help us in curbing any unauthorised telecast of our channels. We already have a team across the country which is trying to ensure that piracy does not happen, and in case we spot any, we will bring the guilty to book.”
