Tamil channel Moon TV set for relaunch on March 1

Launched in 2008 by Moon Vision, Tamil infotainment channel Moon TV went off air in Chennai just six months after commencing its operations. Dr L Shawnawaz Khan, Managing Director, Moon TV cites problems faced with MSOs as the reason behind going off air in Chennai.
The channel is now set to relaunch on March 1, 2013. “The second innings of Moon TV has been made possible due to state-run Arasu, which has brought about a significant change in the TV distribution space in Tamil Nadu. Twenty channels got relaunched in Chennai after Arasu came in,” Khan said.

With the relaunch, there are also plans to consolidate and extend the primetime slot with more news bulletins. Being an infotainment channel, there have been two local news bulletins in the 7-7:30 PM and 9-9:30 PM slots. Moon TV plans to have special news coverage on the Gulf region from 10 PM to 12 AM. This is keeping in mind that Moon TV has been streaming programmes to 133 countries spread across the Indian Sub-Continent, the Middle East, South East Asia, Australia and some parts of Africa.
Ravi Kumar, Programme Consultant, Moon TV shared, “The channel’s content has been revamped and we have added travel and tourism shows, cookery shows, shows for women and programmes for college students. Given the fact that daily soaps are the major content that attract the viewers, we are confident of reaching a strong position in Chennai.”
Elaborating on the content line-up, Khan said, “We will have a show called ‘Home Theatre’, which will be aired on Saturdays from 6 PM to 7 PM. Upcoming short film makers will get an opportunity to showcase their films.”
Moon TV is targeted at women and Tamilians residing outside India. Khan said, “We will be different from other major channels in Tamil Nadu as we will be covering more rural news and events that you will not see in other channels.”
The channel will embark on its promotional activities in the next two to three days. It will include billboards, bus shelters, posters and word of mouth.
Currently available on the cable platform, Moon TV will be available on the DTH platform in a year’s time.
