ZTE, Sony, Huawei, others may come out with smartphones running Mozilla Firefox OS

Soon after the launch of Mozilla Firefox OS recently, global handset manufacturers are showing keenness to come out with smartphones in near future running this latest OS. The list includes Alcatel (TCL), Huawei, LG and ZTE which would build the first Firefox OS devices. They all will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.
Although short of commitment, Sony too is believed to be working on plan to come out with smartphone running Firefox OS. The popularity of Firefox OS does not end here. Twitter and Facebook too have plans to for Firefox OS based app.

If the initial reaction to the Firefox OS is anything to go by, it might give tough competition to Google’s Android, Microsoft’s Windows and BlackBerry 10 and Apple’s iOS.
Mozilla who launched Mozilla Firefox OS last week said that 18 operators at Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona announced their commitment to Firefox OS, which will power the world’s first Open Web Devices.
These operators include América Móvil, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Hutchison Three Group, KDDI, KT, MegaFon, Qtel, SingTel, Smart, Sprint, Telecom Italia Group, Telefónica, Telenor, TMN and VimpelCom. Telstra is welcoming the Mozilla initiative as an opportunity to deliver an innovative mobile Web experience to their customers. The breadth of operators now backing Mozilla’s Firefox OS demonstrates significant industry support for a fully-adaptable, unconstrained mobile platform.
The first wave of Firefox OS devices will be available to consumers in Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Venezuela. Additional markets will be announced soon.
