Broadcasters to face Rs 30 lakh penalty on programme code violations

In a meeting of broadcasters with BCCC and ministry officials it was decided that any channel that was found violating the programme code and guidelines laid by BCCC will be penalized Rs.30 lakhs.
This follows the show “Emotional Atyachar” telecasted on UTV Bindass that recently violated the norms set by regulator.

The fine amount will depend on the severity, degree and duration of the violation, apart from the number of complaints and harm caused, say industry sources.
The IBF meeting was also attended by Information & broadcasting minister Manish Tewari, newly appointed Secretary Bimal Julka, and the BCCC chairperson Justice Shah.
On TAM weekly/monthly ratings issue, the Broadcasters seem to be voicing different opinions and are yet to announce their final decision on the topic.
The advertisers have stuck to their stand for weekly ratings. Leading advertisers even initiated communication towards cancellation of ads from July 12 onwards in response to not being consulted by select broadcasters before they moved to weekly ratings.
