Rovi hits 1 billion DivX device milestone

Rovi Corporation has reached a 1 billion milestone for shipments of DivX-supported devices, it announced.
DivX technology is now included in more than 30,000 models of devices, including digital TVs, set-top boxes, smartphones and tablets.

The news came as Rovi announced that Japanese entertainment publishing firms Kinema-Junposha has selected its DivX Video Service to power Japan’s first DivX premium online video store.
Rovi SVP of product sales and marketing, Bob Shallow, hailed the 1 billion figure as an “amazing achievement” only made possible by the continued support of electronics manufacturers.
“We are now focusing our broad range of new and existing DivX video technologies and long-standing device certification program on accelerating HEVC adoption, as exemplified by our demonstrations and announcements at IBC,” said Shallow.
At IBC, Rovi is highlighting the progress it has made since then, demonstrating a range of new products and updates that incorporate the new compression standard, and hosting live demonstrations of HEVC solutions in collaboration with other industry leaders.
