AAP files defamation case against web portal, television channel

The Aam Aadmi Party has filed a defamation case against web portal ‘Media Sarkar’ and TV channel ‘India News’ for carrying what the party said was a fake and malafide sting operation.
AAP leaders will also meet Delhi’s chief electoral officer on 26 November over the issue.

The party also criticized the action of Delhi Police that detained eight of their volunteers from Pragati Maidan where the India International Trade Fair was going on.
“They were arrested for roaming in the fair donning AAP caps. We condemn this action of the police as it is not illegal for volunteers or supporters to wear caps while being in a public place,” a party statement said.
“In the past few days, AAP has witnessed several incidents wherein volunteers of our rivals are resorting to cheap tricks like posing as AAP volunteers and threatening people. They have tried everything from raking up controversies regarding our funds to a fake sting operation. In the last few days, several incidents have surfaced where volunteers of our political rivals are posing as AAP volunteers - wearing our caps or with AAP stickers on their cars - and creating nuisance in their bid to defame us,” it said.
“We neither believe in distributing money nor alcohol. Our volunteers are a motivated lot who are working with the party selflessly. AAP also wants to clarify on reports that highlighted that Arvind Kejriwal has three voter ID cards.
The Election Commission on its part has to delete the name of the voter from the previous place. Arvind Kejriwal while applying for his new voter card, had declared his older card details,” the party statement said.
