Odisha government takes Hockey India League franchise

The sixth team for the Hockey India League (HIL) will come from Odisha with the state government owned companies joining hands to take ownership of the Hockey team that will participate in the second edition of HIL to be held from 23 January- 23 February 2014. 
The state government-owned Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) have floated a new company, Odisha Sports Development and Promotion Company (OSDPC), to own the and operate the HIL franchise. 

Former India captain Dilip Tirkey is the chief mentor and advisor of the franchise while Australia’s Terry Walsh has been named as the franchise’s coach.
The new franchise named Kalinga Lancers was unveiled by the Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik during an event at the State Secretariat which also saw the signing of agreement between the OSDPC and Hockey India, the organiser of the league. 
The Kalinga Stadium in capital Bhubaneswar will serve as the home venue for Kalinga Lancers. The multi-purpose stadium boasts of international standard synthetic hockey surface.
