Star Sports threatens to switch off signals to IndusInd Media

Star Sports India, the sports broadcast business of Star India, is in a confrontation mood with the cable TV operators. After GTPL and Siti Cable, the sportscaster has threatened Hinduja Group-owned MSO IndusInd Media and Communications Limited (IMCL) with de-activation of its channels for non-payment of subscription fees and non-receipt of monthly subscriber base.
Star Sports India has issued three public notices informing consumers and franchises of IMCL of imminent de-activation of Star Sports channels in digital addressable system (DAS) areas of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Nasik.

The company owns and operates six channels including Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2, Star Sports 3, Star Sports 4, Star Sports HD 1 and Star Sports HD 2.
Earlier, Star Sports had issued similar notices against GTPL and Siti Cable. It had threatened to de-activate signals to Siti Cable for outstanding dues and non-signing of agreements in DAS and non-DAS markets.
While in the case of GTPL, it had de-activated signals on account of outstanding dues, it had also filed eight FIRs against the MSO in Gujarat for signal piracy.
