CQ- TDSAT orders Manthan to clear dues of IndiaCast UTV by 15 July

The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has ordered Kolkata based multi-system operator (MSO) Manthan Broadband Services to clear content aggregator IndiaCast UTV’s dues of Rs 23 million in three installments by 15th July.
The tribunal has directed Manthan to pay a sum of Rs 8 million to IndiaCast UTV by 30 May and balance of Rs 15 million in two equal installments- one payble on 20 June and the other on 15 July.
Making the interim arrangement, the tribunal also directed IndiaCast UTV not to give effect to its switch-off notice. The aggregator had issued a disconnection notice to Manthan for defaulting on the payment of monthly subscription fees.
The MSO has also been directed to carry ETV Bangla news channel apart from other IndiaCast UTV channels covered by the agreement.
Apart from payment of dues, Manthan will continue payment of the monthly subscription fees. The monthly subscription fees will be payable until further orders, after adjustment of the placement charges receivable by it under the agreement, stated the tribunal.
In case of any default on payment of the dues or the monthly subscription fees, IndiaCast UTV would be at liberty to disconnect the supply of signals to Manthan without any further notice or any order from this tribunal.
The tribunal also directed the two parties to negotiate and try to conclude a fresh agreement commencing from 1 April 2014 by the next date. The matter has been slated for 21 July under the heading ‘for directions’.
