CQ- Deadline of digitisation may relaxed

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has given indication that his ministry may extend the deadline for pahses III and IV of digitisation until indigenous set top boxes are available in adequate numbers.
According to him, digitisation of four crore TV sets across the country has already been completed so far. However, for the completion of the remaining part of digitisation of 11.5 crore TV sets in the country comprising phase III and phase IV, we want to get the same done domestically, he said.
"It will help serve two purposes. While it will generate more employment, it will also ensure that the STBs get repaired in case or their becoming out of order", said he.
With regard to allowing 100 per cent FDI in news and other media, he said that right now it is not on his agenda. “Right now, we are focusing on matters which directly impact consumers. FDI can wait. We anyway allow 100 per cent FDI in entertainment,” he said.
