CQ- MIB cancels registration of four MSOs

As per the latest list of cancellation and issue of registration for Digital Addressable market, of four multi-system operators (MSOs) including that of Kolkata-based Digicable Comm. Services, Chennai-based Jothishankar Annamalai, Mysore-based Mediasix Digital Networks, and Thanjavur-based Kavery Digital Networks.
On 18 July DigicableComm Services' permanent registration for Kolkata was cancelled due to denial of security clearance by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Digicable MD and CEO Jagjit Singh Kohli said that the company has approached the MHA and is hopeful of getting the clearance immediately. He is also preparing to go to the court against the cancellation notice.
Kohli feels that  probably due to the MHA clearance has not been given  due to Amit Nag who was then CEO and on the board and the application for DAS (digital addressable system) had his signature. Nag  had resigned from Digicable andthe company had filed criminal cases against him. His bail was denied up to the  Supreme Court level and he is currently wanted in that case. He has also  been chargesheeted in a case filed against him by Siti Cable.
Digicable Comm. Services is a joint venture between Digicable and Kolkata-based Multicon Group.
The provisional license of Jothishankar Annamalai and Mediasix Digital Networks’ functioning in Chennai and Karnataka were cancelled due to non-operation.
The provisional license of Kavery Digital Network functioning in DAS notified areas of Tamil Nadu was cancelled due to denial of security clearance by the MHA.
While Agra-based Jai Maa Vaishno Media Entertainment registration has canceled because the company’s registration was not processed as the firm was not interested in MSO registration.
While Andhra -based Tanuku Communication Network provisional was cancelled due to non-operational.
Meanwhile, the ministry has granted new  registrations to the following new MSOs. This takes the total number of MSOs in the country to 106 as on 23 July 2014.
ACT Digital Home Entertainment, Sagar E Technologies, Maharaja Telesystems and RVR Infrastructures.
Some MSO's whose registration was cancelled earlier have manage to get a stay order against the ministry action and are still operative.
This include Pune-based Intermedia Cable Communication’s (ICC) whose registration had  been cancelled, but the MSO had got a stay order against the cancellation.
As per information provided by the MIB, there were 150 MSOs registered with the ministry to operate in DAS-notified areas, as on 30 December 2013. Recently, MIB secretary Bimal Julka had said that the ministry had approved licences of 70 more MSOs.
Last year, the MIB had cancelled registration of 20 MSOs for failing to set up a digital headend, which was one of the conditions for all MSOs to comply with.
Of the 20 MSOs, as many as four—namely Bitto Cable Network, Surya Digital Broadcasting, Tanku Communication Network, and Ajit Cable & Satellite—had lost provisional registration for all the cities. The remaining 16 had lost registration only for cities where they had failed to operationalise their licences by setting up digital headends.
Among the leading MSOs who have lost provisional licenses for various cities include GTPL, Digi Maharaja, Fastway Transmission, Sea TV Network, Kaizen Digital and Siti Vision Media.  According to Cable Television Networks Rules according an MSO that operates in DAS-notified areas has to take necessary permission from the MIB, in addition to registration as a cable operator.
