YouView all set for expansion

Following completion of its shareholder agreement, subscription-free video-on-demand (VOD) service YouView says that it is now ready to embark on a major expansion plan.
Despite a number of false starts, delays and even recently losing a trademark case with a small UK company over the YouView brand itself, the company assures that the agreement guarantees five years of funding by all seven shareholders — the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Arqiva, BT and TalkTalk — giving it scale in the UK broadband market.

Having captured over a million connected UK homes in less than 18 months since its marketing launch, the company says that it will continue to target a long-term goal of ten million connected homes. This will be in part achieved with a major recruitment drive that will expand its technology team by well over 50%.
"I am delighted that all seven shareholders have committed to another five years, based on the core principles that have already made YouView such a success," commented CEO Richard Halton. "Our plans for expansion will allow YouView to develop more consumer facing functionality, widening the gap with the rest of the market and allowing viewers to discover more of the content they love."
