CQ-Film Producers don’t want stars to host TV shows

Kannada film producers feel that film stars hosting TV shows reduces footfalls in cinemas as viewers are happy to see their favourite stars on the small screen in the comfort of their home. On 19 August a few producers upset by the impact this has had, have approached the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) asking it to “restrain” stars from participating in television shows.
The producers are targeting Sudeep (Big Boss), Ramesh Arvind (Weekend with Ramesh) and Ganesh (Super Minute) who host popular shows. According to the producers, people are preferring to watch their favourite actors on the small screen.

As reported in the Hindu, H.D. Gangaraju, KFCC president, the Karnataka Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) has written a letter to the apex film body asking it to “restrain” the three stars from hosting shows. “Following a formal letter from the KFPA, we had a discussion with producers on Monday and decided to hold another discussion on August 24,” Mr. Gangaraju told The Hindu.
The KFCC would also hold meetings with actors’ and directors’ associations and chief executive officers of entertainment channels, he said.
According to Mr. Gangaraju, the genesis of the problem lay in entertainment channels becoming selective while buying satellite rights of films, following a cap on advertisements by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). They are buying films starring Shivarajkumar, Puneet Rajkumar, Sudeep, Darshan, Ganesh and a few other top stars.
