CQ-Portuguese want more DTT channels

Most respondents to the public consultation on the future of DTT in Portugal advocate more channels “immediately” in order “to maximise existing supply”, according to a partial report published by the Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC) in conjunction with the National Communications Authority (Anacom).
In the findings the ERC states that with regard to the occupation of Multiplex A, most respondents prefer the immediate allocation of more SD channels in order to maximize existing supply. On the number of channels, type and format, the options are very diverse, with a trend of responses towards the remaining capacity being allocated to existing operators and those who have publicly expressed interest.

Some broadcasters and DTT network operators consider that an economic feasibility study for the installation of Multiplex B should be done, while mobile operators do not see the need to install a new multiplex. The opinions are divided on a planned network for regional services and programs, “though with a certain predominance of not planning to keep this kind of network”.
The consultation was launched on April 24th with the aim of hearing from all interested parties regarding the evolution of this broadcasting platform. The ERC and Anacom prepared a questionnaire with 30 questions for collecting input from all stakeholders.
During the twenty days of the period of public consultation, which lasted until May 26th, the ERC and ANACOM received contributions from 48 participants, among which are the contributions of various associations, businesses and private citizens.
