TV 9 CEO surrenders for defaming Telangana MLAs

Ravi Prakash, the CEO of TV 9, Telugu  news channel was arrested in Hyderabad on 16 August 2014 in connection with a case of making derogatory statements about Telangana MLAs in a TV programme. He was released on bail on the same day on personal bond and two sureties.
According to media reports, Mr Ravi Prakash surrendered at the LB Nagar police station in the evening, deposited his passport and has furnished a personal bond and two sureties to be released on bail. Mr Prakash will have to appear before police every Sunday till the chargesheet is filed.

In June this year, the LB Nagar police had registered a case against the CEO and six other employees of TV9, following a magistrate's order. An advocate named Janardhan Reddy had filed a petition in the Metropo-litan Magistrate’s Court of Cyberabad, alleging that the channel’s Bullet News programme of June 12 had made derogatory statements about the MLAs, showing them in a poor light.
Ravi Prakash had moved the High Court for a bail which was rejected. The High Court had ordered him to surrender to the Police.
Meanwhile, TV9 which was blacked out by the Multi System Operators, after a row broke out over one of its programmes denigrating Telangana legislators, has apologised to the Telangana State Federation of MSOs and urged it to arrange for a meeting to discuss resumption of the telecast of the channel programmes.
