Calcutta HC extends DigicableComm interim stay by eight weeks

The Calcutta High Court has extended the interim stay on the cancellation of DigiCablecomm Services’ DAS Regulation for eight more weeks.
The HC has fined the union government for failing to file its reply in the matter. In the previous hearing, the HC had given the government three weeks to file its reply while extending the interim relief till 28 November.
The bench of Justice Nadira Patheria has not clarified whether the eight-week extension will be effective from 17 November or 28 November.
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) had on 18 July cancelled DigiCablecomm’s DAS licence for Kolkata and Howrah due to denial of security clearance by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
DigiCablecomm is a joint venture between Digicable and Kolkata-based Multicon Group. It had obtained a stay order from the Calcutta HC against the MIB’s cancellation order.
