SITI Cable selects Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 technology to launch high speed broadband service

Cisco announced that SITI Cable, one of India’s leading cable TV multiple-system operators (MSO), has selected Cisco® DOCSIS 3.0 technology for the introduction of next-generation cable broadband services in the country. With DOCSIS 3.0 technology, SITI Cable will be offering its subscribers Internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps, as well as high speed data networks and access to more content online compared with that offered by existing telecom Internet service providers (ISPs).
DOCSIS 3.0 is a key component of the Cisco IP next generation network (NGN) architecture. It can deliver download speeds of up to 300 Mbps per subscriber compared with 24 Mbps for the prevalent ADSL2+ technology. DOCSIS 3.0 also increases the upload capacity up to 100 Mbps compared with 1 Mbps provided by ADSL2+, enabling consumers to share content seamlessly and enjoy uninterrupted HD video calls across the globe.
SITI Cable is already providing Internet services in the eastern part of India and has now launched them in Delhi and NCR on the DOCSIS 3.0 platform. The company has 4.3 million digital cable TV subscribers and provides cable TV services in India’s 100+ cities and adjoining areas, reaching out to over 10 million viewers. It plans to roll out broadband services in other cities in the near future.
With a population of 1.27 billion, India currently has only 74 million broadband subscribers (wired and wireless) as per Telecom Subscription Data, 31 August 2014, released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
V.D. Wadhwa, CEO, SITI Cable, said, “It is an absolute pleasure to be introducing our broadband service. We plan to accelerate the deployment to capitalize on the enormous business potential this market currently holds. With the deployment of this technology, we are uniquely positioned to offer superior Internet browsing, video streaming, video surveillance and rich media content on the same coaxial cable that delivers high-quality digital cable TV signals. We will offer much higher speed at highly competitive price. We are confident that Cisco’s technological expertise will help us in the achievement of this goal.”
Sanjay Kaul, MD, Service Provider Sales, Cisco India & SAARC, said, “It is commendable to see Cisco's vision, to be the leading enabler of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and broadband acceleration in India, coming closer to reality. We believe that the cable TV industry has the potential to transform the broadband industry in India and would like to congratulate SITI Cable for marking an important milestone on this roadmap.”
