Tamil Nadu Cable operators protest against rate increase

Cable TV operators belonging to the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Public Welfare Association (TCOA) are protesting against increase in monthly subscription for every cable TV connection from Rs. 70 to Rs. 150.
On 17 November Cable TV Operators staged a demonstration near the collectorate in Salem, Tamil Nadu.
Operators complain that after making investments and updating the technology regularly, there is no help either from the Central or the State government. “There is no recognition for our service as both the governments are keen on collecting more tax from us”, they added.
Operators have resented that they were targeted for political reasons and were also projected as criminals in the society. But facing all these challenges, they have continued to serve the people and collect a meagre subscription.
However, the present hike by Broadcasters and MSOs can not be forced on consumers.
Operators said that due to poor quality of transmission, many customers switched to DTH service and they are losing the markets. Even the government regulations do not help them as they support only the big players.
