Oregan joins RDK community(International News dated

Oregan Networks, a specialist in pay-TV systems, has become a member of the RDK (Reference Design Kit), a pre-integrated software bundle that provides a common framework for powering customer-premises equipment from TV service providers, and announced a strategic intent to align its engineering expertise and services with RDK’s initiatives.
The RDK is supported by more than 180 licensees including CE manufacturers, SOCs vendors, software developers, system integrators, and TV service providers. It is administered by the RDK Management LLC, a joint venture between Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable, and Liberty Global. RDK enables TV service providers to standardize certain elements of CPE devices including set-top boxes, gateways, and converged devices, but also to easily customise the applications and user experiences that ride on top. RDK code is located beneath, and independent of, the application framework or UE/UX/UI layer of these devices.
Mark Perry, the CEO of Oregan Networks commented “Based on the traction that collaborative models of development have gained in the embedded software market, Oregan embraces this trend and actively participates in initiatives such as RDK, allowing operators to tap into key benefits of community-driven code bases, yielding increased velocity of evolution and issue resolution”.
“Oregan is in a unique position to leverage our team’s advanced end-to-end integration skill base, ranging from silicon and hardware level integration, conditional access security implementation and multimedia application authoring,” said Luc Kennedy-Lamb, VP Engineering of Oregan. He added “Crucially for network operators, we look to facilitate systems that create a safe environment for experimentation with a multitude of User Experience applications and effectively manage software builds deployed across legacy and new devices in the field. As a key value proposition, Oregan will provide the systems and processes that will allow operators to embrace open source in a reliable and risk-mitigated manner”.
