Focus appointed Sandeep Bamzai as Editor; looking to cut two regional channels

Focus News has appointed Sandeep Bamzai, a veteran Journalist as Editor. He will look after the editorial operations of Focus News. Prior to Focus News, Sandeep Bamzai has worked as Editor in Mail Today newspaper. He resigned from Mail Today last month   because  he was named in a public interest litigation (PIL) related to the Essar Group, allegedly cultivating people in position of power by showering them with favours to forward its business interests.
Bamzai has been a business journalist in many publishing house in metro cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. He started his career with The Statesman, Kolkata. In 1986, he moved to Mumbai to join The Indian Express and spent more than 15 years in Mumbai. 
He has also worked as Executive Editor with Plus Channel.
Focus TV Group has five television channels - Focus News (Hindi), Focus Haryana and regional channels that broadcast in Oriya, Bangla, Assamese and an entertainment channel in the North East. Out of these five channels, Focus TV is planning to shut down its two channels namely Bangla and Assamese channel. As per internal sources, Focus TV is looking to sell these two channels to a national news TV player. But there is no official confirmation so far.
