HC ban extended till 27 May on airing BBC gangrape documentary

In a hearing related to BBC documentary held on 15 April in Delhi High court, the court observed that this film can encourage and incite violence against women and thus compromise women’s safety.
A bench of Chief Justice of Delhi High Court G.Rohini and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw also observed that the documentary can encourage violence against women. The three law student asked for interim relief from ban on telecasting the controversial BBC documentary on the December 16 gangrape case convict's interview but the judges said,”It is not a matter for interim relief. So we cannot grant the same at this stage. We have called for the original record, which has been produced before this court by the concerned ministry. We will go through it and then take up the matter,”
Finally the bench listed the matter for further hearing on 27 May.
The court was hearing two PILs filed by the students—Vibhor Anand, Arun Menon and Kritika Padode, seeking lifting of the ban on the documentary’s broadcast.
