Janam TV Launched in Kochi on 19 April

Janam TV, a Malayalam entertainment-cum-news channel, has been launched in Kochi on 19 April. Janam, which means ‘people’, is supported by an investment of Rs 50 crore raised from around 5,000 shareholders, who contributed between Rs 25,000 to Rs 5 lakh.
The TV launching function began with the ceremonial lighting of lamp by Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a Spiritual leader while the ID of the channel was switched on by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
The new TV channel has been launched at a time when more than three dozen Malayalam TV channels are facing hard time while those two channels which had gone off air recently went into financial crisis.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram director P Parameshwaran and Mata Amritanandamayi wished good luck for the channel via pre-recorded video telecast.
