ABP receives approval from I&B to launch Gujarati news channel

ABP news Network that had plans to launch a Punjabi news channel earlier has now shifted its interest to launch a Gujarati news channel. It is learned that the group has received a green signal from the I&B Ministry to change the name of its proposed Punjabi news channel ABP Sanjha to ABP Samachar Gujarati.
The group had received the licence for ABP Sanjha on 30th July 2014 after a wait of over 18 months. But as the company was gearing for the launch, the management decided not to go ahead with the plan and told the 180+ employees that the plan of launching the channel had been shelved, offering them a three-month severance package.
According to media analysts, the extension in the DAS Phase III and IV deadlines by the NDA government would have compelled the company to pay a higher carriage in the analogue cable regime.
ABP News Network runs three news channels—ABP News (Hindi), ABP Ananda (Bengali), and ABP Majha (Marathi).
