CBI to inquire Karunanidhi’s secretary

The Central Bureau of Investigation has reportedly asked DMK MP Kanimozhi, party leader M. Karunanidhi’s personal secretary K. Shanmuganathan, IPS officer M.S. Jaffar Sait and former CEO of Kalaignar TV Sarath Kumar Reddy to appear before it for voice analysis. This is in connection with a few audio tapes containing conversations allegedly between Mr. Sait and others that went viral.
The conversation between Mr. Sait when he was the Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence), Tamil Nadu, and others was allegedly about the kickbacks in the allocation of 2G spectrum involving Kalaignar TV. The conversations were recorded in 2010 and released in 2014 by senior advocate Prashant Bhushan.
Even though the CBI made a similar phone call to Ms. Kanimozhi, the investigating agency had told her that her appearance was not mandatory.
