MIB grants 15 new provisional MSO licences, but no permanent ones

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has granted new provisional licences to 15 multi-system operators (MSOs). 
As per the recent list, the ministry has not awarded any new permanent MSO licence. 
With the new approvals, the total number of provisional MSO registrations has increased to 334 and the total number of permanent MSO registrations stands at 234 as on 15 December 2015.
The new list includes DEN Networks’ Nashik-based subsidiary DEN Discovery Digital Network, which has received the provisional registration for Maharashtra. 
The ministry has granted pan-India licence to New Delhi-based Extreme Teleconnect. Hindupur Cable TV Operators Welfare Association has got the registration for Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. 
The permitted area of operation of Kolkata-based Meghbela Cable & Broadband Services has been revised to pan-India. The earlier registration was only for Kolkata Metropolitan Area. 
However, the MIB has updated the area of JAK Communication to the entire state of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The Chennai-based MSO’s permanent registration is valid up to 25 June 2025.
