Graphic India to create original content; gets USD5 million boost

Armed with USD5 million funding, Graphic India has a big plan of creating original Indian superheroes and character entertainment franchises. It is one of India’s leading character entertainment companies, and has raised a new financing round of $5 million.


Graphic India was founded by Sharad Devarajan and Liquid Comics with lead investors including, CA Media, the Asian investment arm of The Chernin Group and NYC investment group, Start Media LLC.

Those who funded included Start Media, Backflip Studios co-founder Julian Farrior, Mohandas Pai’s 3One4 Capital, Zodius Capital founder Neeraj Bhargava. Two years ago, the company had raised $2.8 million in seed funding led by existing investor CA Media and New York-based media investment group Start Media.

Graphic India will now start launching its characters into international markets as well as expand beyond digital comics and animation, into original mobile content, live-action TV/Film, and VR/AR.

Graphic India co-founder & CEO Sharad Devarajan commented:  “In today’s media landscape, if content is King, then globally appealing multi-platform content is God. Our mission at Graphic India is to create characters and stories that are uniquely Indian, but entertaining and inspiring to audiences around the world.”
