Sony to launch its pay TV channels in Russia; forms joint venture with NMG

Soon lovers of Indian content in Russia will be able to watch their favourite programmes offered by Sony Pictures Television; the broadcaster has formed a joint venture (JV) with Russian media holding company National Media Group (NMG) to launch pay television channels in Russia.


NMG CEO Olga Paskina said: “Partnering with Sony, a world’s major company, extends the presence of NMG in the pay-TV segment, completing our package with unique brands. Sony Pictures is a key business player which makes it possible to count on expanding the formats of cooperation in the future.”

The JV will earn revenue by selling ads on channels Sony Turbo, Sony Sci-Fi, and Sony Entertainment.NMG has also acquired 80% stake in a company that broadcasts Sony’s pay channel package in Russia.

NMG is the largest private media holding company in Russia that has a business presence in all media environments. It has Channel One, Ren TV, Channel 5 and Channel 78, the Izvestia newspaper, the Sport Express newspaper, the Metro-Petersburg newspaper and the multimedia information centre IZ.ru.
