Police apprehend 3 people in Gwalior for TV viewership manipulation

Three people have been arrested by the Gwalior police for TV rating manipulation in favour of a Hindi news channel. The complaint was filed by Hansa Research, one of the vendors tasked with the responsibility of installing Bar-O-Meters in panel homes.

The police said that a detailed investigation has been ordered to probe the matter further.

As per media reports, the accused offered monetary inducements to BARC panel home members to watch a particular Hindi news channel. They paid Rs 500 per home.

BARC India spokesperson said, “BARC India is committed to a measurement system that is fair, transparent and free of any influences and malpractices. We have deployed cutting-edge technology to detect panel infiltration, and follow up with on-ground vigilance/investigations”.

He added: “Since day one, we have been approaching law enforcement officials for their support in controlling this menace. We are encouraged by the fact that due to our sustained campaign and complaints, police are now taking action, and arresting those involved in this illegal activity.”

Such cases are happening more frequently now and needs to be addressed for impartial viewership data.
