RBTV-Antrix matter reaches TDSAT

Eight days after Antrix disconnected transponder service to the Direct To Home (DTH) operator Reliance Big TV, the latter has now moved the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT).The service was expired on 14 April.

RBTV argued that it has made a huge investment in acquiring the business from Reliance Communications. The DTH operator submitted that it faced triple challenges after taking over the DTH business. The first big challenge was to submit the bank guarantee and renew the DTH licence from the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB).

The other two challenges were to clear the outstanding dues of broadcasters and Antrix for using the transponders from Malaysian satellite operator Measat’s satellite.

Earlier, the TDSAT had also directed the DTH operator to pay Rs. 25.92 crore by 31 March. Apparently, the DTH operator had cleared the outstanding dues, however, Rs 7 crore is still pending.

In a new appeal filed by Independent TV on behalf of Reliance Big TV, the tribunal has directed the DTH operator to clear the remaining Rs 7 crore following which Antrix will have to restore the transponder signal supply within 24 hours.
