Star agrees to allow DD to air one IPL match per week

The state owned broadcaster Doordarshan has been allowed by Star India (IPL rights holder) to telecast one IPL match per week (every Sunday) with one hour delay. The proposal was sent by the I&B ministry.

Prasar Bharati tweeted:  “Now viewers can watch IPL matches on DD network for the first time.”

However, Star India CEO Uday Shankar said that they will be showing only one of the two Sunday matches on DD Sports. The IPL 2018 begins on April 7 in Mumbai.

Shankar said: “It’s only one match per week and on a Sunday with an hour delay. It’s not like international cricket that has to be shared with national broadcaster. We are comfortable with this and that’s why we have gone ahead. It only helps the IPL if it reaches people that don’t have access to Pay TV.”
